The Mabel Stphens Women's Welfare Trust was set up by Violet Stephens, in honour of her mother for the welfare of women and girls. The trust began with a promise to help the eldest daughter of an AIDS victim called Shanti who wanted to continue her studies and become a teacher. The trust helped prevent her forced marriage to an elderly man and has allowed her to continue her education. This young girl is now very active in the church helping others in need and dreams of becoming a teacher and returning to her village to teach there.
